Cats of the Week: Orville and Wilbur

Meet The White Brothers: Orville and Wilbur! These friendly fellows are a lively pair of beautiful all-white brothers. Orville has blue eyes, Wilbur has green eyes, and both of them are completely lovable. These cats were literally minutes from death's door at a public shelter when the Goathouse rescued them last fall.

They are about 18 months old now and while they still have wonderful and affectionate personalities, they have calmed down a lot since they were kittens. They love playing with each other, with other cats, and with people. Orville and Wilbur are very bonded to each other and must be adopted as a pair. Come meet them soon!

See more photos of these very photogenic brothers!

Cat of the Week: Alton

Alton came to the Goathouse Refuge in 2008 as part of a family of farm cats rescued a mile down the road from the Refuge. He was the cat the owner of the farm said would be the hardest to bring in because he was so "shy."

Well, Alton is shy no more. He is one of the sweetest cats you will ever meet. He loves attention and is always looking for a head and back rub. If, by chance, you pass him by without any attention, he'll kindly remind you that he's here and ready to be petted by meowing loudly and looking up at you with eyes as sweet as sugar.

Alton is a handsome white and black cat with a cute little smudge on his nose. This easy-going fellow loves his cat friends and would be happiest in a home where he has other cats to lounge around with. Alton was two years old in June 2010.

Come meet him! We guarantee that you will fall in love with this little guy.

Cat of the Week: Abel

When you visit the Goathouse Refuge, there are some cats you are sure to meet because they are so out-going. Tom, Jerry, Lizzy, and Alex are among the cats who always run up to welcome our visitors. There are other cats who are just as friendly but you might have to walk around the Refuge to find them. One of these cats is Abel and it's well worth taking the time to look for this fine fellow (you can often find him relaxing along the fence next to the road).

Abel is a young orange tabby with an adorable round head. He's a handsome, sweet, and loving cat who loves to be held and will purr when you pick him up. He'll be a perfect lapcat for some lucky person. Abel is also a great choice for a family with children because he's so laid-back and gentle. He's a wonderful cat in every way - come meet him soon!

See more photos and a video of Abel.

Cat of the Week: Annabella

UPDATE: Annabella was adopted in January 2011. Yay!

Look at this beautiful girl. Annabella is a fancy and elegant kitty with fluffy black-and-white fur. She was just a hair's breath away from death at Animal Control when the Goathouse Refuge scooped her up and brought her home. She's a sweet, friendly, and independent lady who gets along with other cats. Annabella loves people; she enjoys attention, playing, petting, and even belly rubs, but she's also happy doing her own thing. Annabella would make a great companion for someone who is looking for a friendly and easy-going housecat.

Annabella is five years old, and she's been at the Goathouse Refuge for three years now. That's a long time to wait for a forever home! While she is happy at the Refuge where she is taken care of and receives attention from the volunteers, we can't help but wish that Annabella had a home of her very own, where she could sleep in a real bed with a human friend who loves and adores her.

Cat of the Week: Luka Moon

Update: Luka Moon was adopted February 2011. Yay!

Luka Moon is a beautiful black teenage cat with a patch of white on her chest. Part of our large “Kitten Class of 2009,” she came to the Refuge when she was a tiny kitten, along with her mother, Serafina, and her brother, Storm. Luka Moon grew up in our Kitten Room and outdoor Kitten Cabana, and gets along very well with people and with other cats.

Luka Moon LOVES people and being held; she’s a classic affectionate lapcat. She’s been known to take a flying leap from a shelf into a volunteer’s arms when she feels the need for a hug! Approx. date of birth: May 2009

She would love to be adopted with her brother, Storm, another friendly and glossy black cat. Storm also has a spot of white on his chest but we can tell them apart because he's the one with the white whiskers (Luka Moon's are black). It's not easy being a black cat - they are often overlooked by people interested in adopting. Please consider adding a black cat from the Goathouse to your family.

Cat of the Week: Marcel

Update: Marcel has been adopted! (October 2010)

How in the world did a beautiful and loving cat like Marcel end up on the kill list of a public shelter? It boggles the mind to think about it. Marcel was rescued on the very day he was scheduled to be euthanized, and both the Refuge and the world are better places because this awesome cat is alive and well.

He was named for mime Marcel Marceau because of the dark eye markings. The name suits his personality too because our Marcel is an entertainer – in fact, he’s a bit of a ham who talks to you and rolls around to make sure you notice him. Marcel is affectionate and friendly, gets along with everyone (people and other cats alike), and is everything anyone could want in a furry best friend. Lucky person who ends up taking this cat home. Come meet him soon!

Cat of the Week: Pepper

Pepper

What a great cat this is! Pepper is a beautiful black-and-white girlie with green eyes and a wonderful personality. When she runs up to greet you, she often flops over just like a dog asking for a belly rub. It's very endearing.

Pepper came to the Refuge as a kitten in 2008 along with her mother Princess, and eight brothers and sisters. They are known as the Moncure Cats because they were rescued in Moncure, NC. Pepper is super sweet and easy-going; she gets along well with other cats and loves attention from people. She would be a perfect companion for anyone looking to grow their cat family.

More photos of Pepper and the rest of the Moncure Cats are here.
