Cat of the Week: Cookie

Cookie is an extremely sweet and gorgeous cat. She's the kind of kitty who manages to be both elegant and cute at the same time! Her black and white markings are very distinctive, and that face - well, she's simply adorable. Cookie is a master of the fine art of relaxation; she loves to find a soft and comfortable place where she can snooze in interesting positions. Cookie also loves people and attention, and she will happily climb into your lap and claim it as her own!

She came to the Refuge in the summer of 2009 with a litter of kittens and was a very loving mother to her babies. Her kittens have all been adopted and while Cookie is enjoying life at the Refuge, she would love to be a devoted companion to some lucky person. Come meet this wonderful cat and let her capture your heart!

Cat of the Week: Vina

Vina was caught as a small feral kitten. For a long time she hissed and spat in her crate. When she first got her freedom at the Refuge, she always scooted off when people came near. Then one day she had a total change of heart and let us pick her up, and now she is very social and a real favorite. In fact, she’s a total love bug who likes people and LOVES other cats.

As you can see in her photo collection, we often find Vina cuddling with other Refuge residents (she seems to have a special affection for Aster and Reverend Martin). She’s grown up to be a beautiful tabby with lovely green eyes. Vina would love to be part of a family with other kitties, and she would enjoy being an indoor-only cat as she seldom goes outside and much prefers hanging out in the Studio building. Please consider adding sweet Vina to your family today!

Happy Tails: Polly

Thanks so much to Karen and Steve for adopting Polly (formerly known as BabyBird or Baby) in July and for sending us this wonderful update this week. We are so happy that Polly now has a forever home where she is loved and adored. Karen and Steve are lucky to get to hear this sweet cat "chirp" everyday!

Karen writes:

Dear all,

I thought you might like to see some pictures of Polly (as we call BabyBird) in her new home. She's adjusted very well, and the day after we got her, she started sleeping with us. She still likes to chirp and trill at us; we think she has her own little cat language. She doesn't exactly wake us up in the morning, but she knows the sound of the alarm and what it means, so as soon it goes off she will be on the bed, trilling, rubbing, and awaiting attention and/or food.

She is not quite a lapcat, but she is very sweet and loves attention and being petted, and she will curl up and sleep next to me when I'm working at home. I have a feeling that she may grow into a lapcat when she gets older. She has also developed a playful streak (string is her favorite) and a bit of a housecat saunter. She will usually come when called, whether it's for food or just to be fussed over. We discovered that she loves to knead with her feet, especially on soft surfaces or when she is happy.

She is evidently a younger kitty than we thought when we adopted her; the vet said she was maybe around two years old, and also that she had likely had a litter at some point early in her life. She has a few missing teeth, and, along with her clipped ear, that made me wonder about her life before she was rescued by the Refuge. Regardless, we love her dearly, and we are glad that the Refuge gave her a safe and loving place to stay, rescued her from her earlier life, and allowed us to meet and adopt her.

Sincerely,
Karen

Cat of the Week: Tabitha

A beautiful young tabby with a winning personality, Tabitha is a charming girl who would love to meet you! She came to the Refuge in March 2010 along with six other young cats who were dumped in the woods close to the Refuge. We don't know if all these cats are litter mates or not, but all of them are friendly and adoptable kitties perfect for families. Tabitha has a mellow and affectionate demeanor, and she loves to be petted and held. She will be a wonderful companion. Come meet Tabitha soon! Approx date of birth May 2009.
