Community Listing: Andy

NOTE: This cat is in need from the community. This is listed as a courtesy, and the animal does not live at the Refuge. The Goathouse Refuge is not responsible for any problems with the animals or with the adoption process. Please contact the owner directly for more information.

Andy is a 6 year old smokey grey Domestic Shorthair cat who needs a new home. Andy weighs about 18 pounds and is Indoor only. This cat is located in Wake Forest NC 27587.

Andy is a big boy, almost 20 pounds, beautiful smokey grey shorthair with bright green eyes. He is very bold and not the type of cat to run away and hide when visitors enter the house. He is also quite confident and bold around dogs. He likes other cats, dogs and people, including kids. He is not aggressive, and does not bite or scratch people. However, our resident cat does not like other kitties, so Andy has become quite lonely. His desperate demands for attention from our resident car and subsequent rejection by her has caused him to start becoming disruptive and restless, especially at night, clawing in the blinds, etc., and is upsetting to the other cat who tends to lash out at his attempts to be near her. Andy does not care about playing with cat toys - he prefers to interact with other kitties or to be petted by his humans. We think he would do best in either a household with other cat-friendly pets who will interact/play with him, or as an only pet where he could have all the attention to himself. He is presently an indoor cat, but is not declawed.

Are you the owner: Yes
Reason for surrender: Andy is not getting along with our other cat and our dog. We have tried everything (with the except of drugging the kitty) to no avail, and sadly we feel that a more appropriate home would be best for him. He seems to want to interact with other cats, but our resident kitty is not a "cat person" and does not care for him. Due to his loneliness, he has become destructive and is creating chaos in the home.

Bella is a 10 year old domestic medium hair - gray/black/brown cat who needs a new home. Bella weighs 9.4 lbs and is indoor only. This cat is located in Charlotte, NC 28269.

Bella is a very affectionate and loving cat. She is fully house-trained and has never had an accident in the home. She is declawed, so she does not go outside at all. She would be a wonderful addition to any home, whether there are children in the home or not. She even gets along well with other animals (including dogs). She's got such a sweet disposition and we will truly miss her!

Community Listing: Boone

NOTE: This cat is in need from the community. This is listed as a courtesy, and the animal does not live at the Refuge. The Goathouse Refuge is not responsible for any problems with the animals or with the adoption process. Please contact the owner directly for more information.

Boone is a 5.5 year old Gray DSH tabby cat who needs a new home. Boone weighs 15 and is Indoor only. This cat is located in Chapel Hill, NC 27517 (Chatham Co.).

Boone is an incredibly loving, cuddly, and well-behaved 5.5 year-old male domestic short-hair tabby. He's a shy little guy at first but rewards your patience with loyalty and a low-rumbling purr when he warms up to you. He quickly learns your schedule and is always one step ahead when he knows where you're going in your home. Being petted early in the morning and in the evening are his favorite times! Otherwise, he's perfectly happy to sit in the window-sill and watch the outside world on bright sunny days.

Although he's litter-box trained, we've had problems with him urinating in the house. We strongly suspect that this is associated with a feud between he and his sibling and that a loving one-cat home will provide the environment he's best suited for.
Boone is good with Cats: Yes, Dogs: Unknown, Kids: Yes

Are you the owner: Yes
Reason for surrender: While Boone is litter-box trained, for the last 2 years, we've regularly had problems with him urinating in our house. Our veterinarian found that this is caused by struvite crystals in his urine, which presumably brought about bad associations with the litter boxes.

We've tried all known remedies - type litter, number of boxes, location of boxes, type of food(s), anxiety medication, and home remedies (including one previously provided by Siglinda) - none of which have solved the problem.

Given that this problem began soon after his only fight with our other cat (his sibling), we suspect that Boone developed anxiety associated with being around his sister and that separating the two may resolve his urination issue. He's shy at first, but once he warms up to you, he's an incredibly loving, cuddly, and well behaved cat.

Lanai is a 6 year old Gray and white cat who needs a new home. Lanai weighs 16.8lbs and is Indoor/Outdoor. This cat is located in Durham, NC 27705.

Lanai can be a little skittish but she enjoys sitting around the house and keeping you company. She is mostly indoor but does go out every once in a while. She loves to be fed (as you can probably tell) and would love a home where she could have some nice, quiet company.

Taz is a 7 year old Calico cat who needs a new home. Taz weighs 8.1 and is Indoor/Outdoor. This cat is located in Durham, NC 27705.

Taz is a friendly cat. She enjoys spending time on her own but is also happy to give you nice, quiet company. She was an indoor cat for a long time and now spends her time both inside and out. Taz would love to live with anyone who would give her a little petting and some attention!

Community Listing: Emily

NOTE: This cat is in need from the community. This is listed as a courtesy, and the animal does not live at the Refuge. The Goathouse Refuge is not responsible for any problems with the animals or with the adoption process. Please contact the owner directly for more information.

Emily is a 7 year old Gray DSH cat who needs a new home. Emily weighs 14 and is Indoor only. This cat is located in Morrisville NC 27560.

My name is Emily, I'm 7 years old and I'm a gray short-haired kitty. I've been taken very good care of since I was a kitten -- I'm spayed, up to date on my vaccines and have seen the vet on a regular basis. I'm an independent kitty and would rather sit in the room near you than on your lap. My hair is short and very soft, but I don't shed. I enjoy the company of other cats and can be very playful -- I like to chase strings, balls and my kitty sister. I'm looking for a new home, though, because I'm not very fond of dogs, and haven't been happy since my mom married a man who has one. It makes me grumpy and I'd rather be in a cat-only house. In fact, I might like to be the only cat. Please email if you'd like to meet me.

Love, Emily

Reason for surrender: Emily developed behavior problems when my husband, his dog and I moved in together three years ago. Before then she was always reserved but got along with my other cats and was OK with people. Now she is antagonistic to my other cat and to people; she can't be left alone with the dog. We are having a baby and won't have the house space to keep the dog, cat and baby all separated. And Emily will be happier in a home without a dog.

Community Listing: Simba

NOTE: This cat is in need from the community. This is listed as a courtesy, and the animal does not live at the Refuge. The Goathouse Refuge is not responsible for any problems with the animals or with the adoption process. Please contact the owner directly for more information.

Simba is a 1 year old longhaired buff/orange cat who needs a new home. Simba weighs 9 pounds and is Indoor only. This cat is located in Greensboro, NC, 27406.

Simba is in need of a good home. He is a very friendly neutered male cat that just wants to have a place he can call home. He is good with dogs that aren't high energy and in his face all the time. He is also very good with kids and cats. Simba is not afraid of people and is not the type to hide when company comes over. If you are looking for a more social cat, then please consider Simba.

Contact Sheryl M. at 336-209-8601, bolan19@gmail.com, or 336-697-1355.

Are you the owner: Found the cat as a Stray
Reason for surrender: I found Simba in our backyard, very hungry and thirsty. He was eating some of the food I put out for some ferals in my backyard. At first I thought he was a new feral but when I approached him, he turned out to be very friendly. I brought him to the vet to be checked for a microchip and he does not have one. I also got his tested for FeLV / FIV which he is negative, got his rabies shot and his first FCVRP shot. I am also treating him for roundworms and ear mites. Since he is so friendly, I just can't put him back outside. I already have 3 cats and 2 dogs and just don't have the room for another one. He is a great cat and deserves a good home.
