Cat of the Week: Trevor
If you're looking for a care-free buddy with a huge heart, search no further. Meet Trevor!
Trevor may be the most laid-back cat at the Refuge. He enjoys walking along the fence catching the rays of the sun or lounging around the Studio building on his back, legs akimbo. Trevor loves attention but does not actively seek it out. He enjoys being held like a child, on his back, you name it. Belly rubs? He loves 'em.
Trevor gets along with everyone, whether it be other male cats, female cats, dogs, kids....he has never met a stranger.
Trevor came to the Refuge in January 2008 when he was just a few days old, along with his sister Tayla and his mom, Tessa. Tessa is a manx (no tail), so though Trevor and Tayla both have tails, they are part manx. The girls have both been adopted, and it's time for someone to adopt Trevor!

Cat of the Week: Monkey
Update: Monkey has been adopted. Yay!
This adorable girl is super friendly and affectionate. Monkey has a beautiful muted tortie coat, mainly grey with some peach and white swirled in. Not only is she good-looking, she's one of the sweetest cats at the Refuge. Monkey has a wonderful and easy-going personality; she loves people and is content to just sit in your arms and be held.
Born in July 2008, Monkey spent the first year of her life as an indoor-only kitty in a loving home; she came to the Goathouse in August 2009 when her owner could no longer take care of her. Monkey is highly adoptable and deserves a second chance at finding her forever home. If you're looking for a sweet and loving lapcat, come meet Miss Monkey soon!

The Cats' Meow
A letter from Siglinda, published in the August 18, 2010 edition of the Chapel Hill News:
The Cats' Meow
I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the people who made The Goathouse Refuge Burrito Bash on August 3 at The General Store Café in Pittsboro a huge success. You are all wonderful!
We needed to raise a very large sum to make crucial improvements at the Refuge, and I was very concerned that we faced an almost impossible goal. But we made it! We succeeded far beyond my dreams! I was overwhelmed by the number of supporters who came and participated in our reverse raffle and the silent auction, and who brought friends and family members to join them for a burrito dinner. I cannot thank everyone enough for this heartfelt support.
I must also thank The General Store Café for hosting our event, and the artists who generously donated their works for our silent auction and the regular auction. I was deeply moved to hear laughter and see smiles all around the room - everyone seemed to be having a good time, too!
Finally, I have to thank Becky Norman, the mastermind, and the many workers and volunteers who spent hours organizing before and working hard the evening it took place. We are all united by our love of the more than 200 cats who call the Refuge home - until they can find a permanent home. But it takes very special people to extend that love into the hard work it took to host the Burrito Bash.
I love you all!

Cat of the Week: Brittany
Brittany is a cute little imp of a cat with a sweet and playful disposition. She has lovely markings around her bright green eyes, almost as if someone had taken black ink and outlined them. You can almost always find Brittany in the crowd of cats who welcome visitors to the Refuge; she’s very interested in making new friends and being petted.
Born in the fall of 2007, Brittany was one of five kittens living behind Piedmont Feed in Pittsboro and being cared for by the staff. When the kittens got to be about 4 months old, everyone started worrying about getting them fixed (which is always a good thing to worry about), so the Goathouse stepped in and gladly accepted them. All of the other Piedmont kittens have been adopted, and it’s time for Brittany to find her forever home too. Loving, purring, friendly and beautiful, this cat will make someone a lucky owner.

Cat of the Week: Bevva
Bevva is a tiny calico girl with a face like a yin-yang: half sunshine, half midnight sky. She came to the Refuge last year along with her sister, Mel. Both girls were very shy, but Bevva has made tremendous progress since she arrived. She spent some time in foster care which helped her become more confident and out-going, and she's now a friendly and affectionate cat who enjoys sitting in laps. Bevva loves to be petted and will even give you soft little love nips to remind you to keep petting. She is so ready to go to a home of her very own. Please come meet this beautiful girl soon.

Nikolai in the Independent Weekly
Check out the article about our very own Nikolai in the Independent Weekly's "Dog Days of Summer" issue. It's on page 17 of the August 4th print edition and also on the web here.
Thanks so much to the folks at The Indy for asking the Goathouse to be part of their annual pet issue.
Here's hoping that someone "meets" Nikolai, falls in love with him, and takes him home!
UPDATE:
Nikolai was adopted! His new family read the article in The Indy and came to the Refuge to meet him. Yay!
Here is a "happy tails" message from Nikolai's new family:
"Nikolai is feeling right at home now it seems. He and [cat] Ceasar are getting along pretty well, despite the occasional spat. They play together and chase each other around the house. Their newest game is for Ceasar to "hide" in the cat tunnel and jump out at Nikolai...sometimes that move is lost on Nikolai if he's not looking at the tunnel :) [One-year-old] Jude loves our new fluffy white cat. At first Nikolai was a bit wary of her (she's a little more forward than he's used to), but he rubs on her and she pets him without incident. Nikolai is a great addition to our family and we couldn't be happier!"

Cat of the Week: Coconut
Update: Miss Coconut was adopted. Yay!!!
Coconut (also known as Coco) is a serene and elegant kitty who loves people and the finer aspects of being a cat. This lady enjoys her cat bed, a nice dish of food, and a bit of graceful recreation. She loves attention from her human friends and gets a twinkle in her eyes when you pet her. She's a beautiful cat in every way.
Coco is an ideal house cat, one who would provide love and peaceful companionship, and elevate the ambiance of any home. Stop by the Goathouse to meet Miss Coconut, and prepare to be charmed and smitten by this friendly girl. Perhaps she'll show you her cute belly!
