Cat of the Week: Luka Moon

Update: Luka Moon was adopted February 2011. Yay!

Luka Moon is a beautiful black teenage cat with a patch of white on her chest. Part of our large “Kitten Class of 2009,” she came to the Refuge when she was a tiny kitten, along with her mother, Serafina, and her brother, Storm. Luka Moon grew up in our Kitten Room and outdoor Kitten Cabana, and gets along very well with people and with other cats.

Luka Moon LOVES people and being held; she’s a classic affectionate lapcat. She’s been known to take a flying leap from a shelf into a volunteer’s arms when she feels the need for a hug! Approx. date of birth: May 2009

She would love to be adopted with her brother, Storm, another friendly and glossy black cat. Storm also has a spot of white on his chest but we can tell them apart because he's the one with the white whiskers (Luka Moon's are black). It's not easy being a black cat - they are often overlooked by people interested in adopting. Please consider adding a black cat from the Goathouse to your family.

Cat of the Week: Marcel

Update: Marcel has been adopted! (October 2010)

How in the world did a beautiful and loving cat like Marcel end up on the kill list of a public shelter? It boggles the mind to think about it. Marcel was rescued on the very day he was scheduled to be euthanized, and both the Refuge and the world are better places because this awesome cat is alive and well.

He was named for mime Marcel Marceau because of the dark eye markings. The name suits his personality too because our Marcel is an entertainer – in fact, he’s a bit of a ham who talks to you and rolls around to make sure you notice him. Marcel is affectionate and friendly, gets along with everyone (people and other cats alike), and is everything anyone could want in a furry best friend. Lucky person who ends up taking this cat home. Come meet him soon!

Cat of the Week: Pepper

Pepper

What a great cat this is! Pepper is a beautiful black-and-white girlie with green eyes and a wonderful personality. When she runs up to greet you, she often flops over just like a dog asking for a belly rub. It's very endearing.

Pepper came to the Refuge as a kitten in 2008 along with her mother Princess, and eight brothers and sisters. They are known as the Moncure Cats because they were rescued in Moncure, NC. Pepper is super sweet and easy-going; she gets along well with other cats and loves attention from people. She would be a perfect companion for anyone looking to grow their cat family.

More photos of Pepper and the rest of the Moncure Cats are here.

Cat of the Week: Nicodemus

Meet Nicodemus~

Nicodemus

A big orange tom cat who was found as a stray and brought to the Refuge, Nicodemus has now been tested, neutered, and has received all his shots. He’s a healthy, friendly, and easy-going guy who has made himself right at home at the Refuge and is enjoying the attention he gets from the volunteers. He might do best as an indoor/outdoor cat, but it won’t surprise us if he turns into a classic lap and sofa cat (he’s got that cuddly vibe about him and he seems to prefer hanging out in the Studio building). Come meet this charming fellow soon.

Approximately three years old (as of January 2010).

More photos of the big orange guy are here.
